About Us

Why We Started Tobogo

As busy moms of seven young children between the two of us, we saw a need to make speech therapy more convenient for families. As Michelle experienced when one of her children was in therapy while in preschool, getting to and from a clinic twice a week with her other children in tow wasn't easy. Trying to keep her other children entertained while in the waiting room was anything but ideal. How could we make this easier on families? Also, the paper billing process was archaic and inconsistent. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to login at your convenience and pay online?

From Erin's days running a speech and language practice in the city, she knew how passionate speech therapists are about their field. Many of her colleagues had the desire to treat but did not want to deal with the hassles of insurance billing and administrative tasks. How could we give these therapists options that would work for them and their families? How could we take the administrative burden away from them so that they could focus on treating their clients?

Erin and Michelle launched Tobogo Therapies in the fall of 2017 because they saw a need for making pediatric speech therapy easier and more convenient for families. Through Tobogo, they have streamlined the speech therapy process from start to finish by simplifying the search, scheduling, and billing process. Parents can now search and view online profiles of local speech language pathologists who are available for in-home therapy sessions, schedule therapy sessions online, receive digital invoices and make payments via our secure client portal.

Tobogo provides Speech Language Pathologists with the opportunity to operate their own private practice by reducing the administrative burden and allowing them to focus on quality treatment. Tobogo is designed to seamlessly draw providers and families together for face to face interactions; imperative in pediatric speech and language treatment.

We believe that the healthcare system in the United States will improve when focus shifts to bringing quality care to communities, enabling smart, educated healthcare providers the opportunity to treat in their own neighborhoods. This will allow the healthcare narrative to become more patient-focused. Tobogo Therapies is making this shift now in pediatric speech therapy by creating the marketplace for parents to connect with local therapists who provide in-home pediatric speech therapy. We are thrilled with the positive response thus far and look forward to expanding to more communities!

Our name: The structure of the word Tobogo (TOE-ba-go) is unique in the speech and language world. Articulating “Tobogo” requires a speaker to use the front (the lips), middle (the tip of the tongue), and back of the mouth (the soft palate). Tobogo and words like it (i.e. buttercup and pattycake) are often used to assess or treat oral motor skills or a child’s ability to make rapid speech movements using different parts of the mouth.
